Re: Gabriel Knight 1 Remake (MGX)

This is such great news! The introduction of Gabriel Knight into modern gaming creates a range of possibilities for us die hard P&C adventure fans, and it looks good too. However, the thing I immediately thought of was "What about 2 and 3? If it sells well, will she remake those games as well?" Well...

Re: Looking for GK3 Script Help

The "I go get the shovel" line;

Spoilers ahead (for a 13 year old game lol);
If Grace doesn't dig up the manuscript, she will tell Gabriel where it's buried so he can dig it up later

Re: Qfg5: Windows 7 solutions

I tried adjusting both safety settings, but it won't influence the scratchy sounds in the ingame videos, so I gave up on that. The game itself runs fine when I place the QT3.0 or 4.0 in the folder, and the MOV scenes play also fine visually, it's just the detail of the MOV files being played in game...

Re: Qfg5: Windows 7 solutions

Already tried that with the basefiles, but to no avail; the game does play the sequences, but with the same scratchy sound as 3.0. So odd, I don't know what to make of it. It has to be something with the non-base files, I'm experimenting with them now.

Re: Qfg5: Windows 7 solutions

Ok, so nothing to worry about there. To experiment, I installed a newer quicktime (one compatible with iTunes), which messes up the native Windows 7 installation. Now whenever I try to watch the introduction in-game, the game asks for the installation CD. The safety settings in the newer Quicktime d...

Re: Qfg5: Windows 7 solutions

Hi,
THanks for you response;
I used your 64-bit patch to update the native install, not the old one.

However, when I check the version number of qfg5.exe, it says 'version 1.1.0.0' instead of 1.2.

Qfg5: Windows 7 solutions

Hi again, Got two ways of running Qfg5 in Windows 7, without Win98. Wanted to share them with you. After easy and succesful install of KQ8 in Virtual Machine / Windows 98, I ran into trouble doing the same for Qfg5; after install, the game just wouldn't do anything at all. Not even the slightest err...

Re: Trouble running KQ8 MOE

It may not be an optimal solution, but I simply LOVE running kq6 from windows 3.11 within DOSBox.

When I get a machine with Vista, I'll probably be around here a lot more asking questions.

Re: Trouble running KQ8 MOE

I'm really interested in getting it running in Vista as well, but I don't have anything to experiment with, since I'm avoiding Vista (for obvious retro gaming reasons).

Re: Trouble running KQ8 MOE

I think it's mainly a drivers issue. Intel GMA 500 doesn't support DirectDraw very well, from what I understand. Intel doesn't really know how to make drivers, or so it seems. I'm going to experiment some more with downgrading DirectX, even though that can be dangerous, and experimenting with emulat...

Re: Trouble running KQ8 MOE

Okay, so I got it working, more or less. I think I'm having a problem with the default graphic option, DirectDraw. But I didn't know how to change the option to Direct3D before opening the game; so here's what I did; I installed KQ8 on a desktop where it works, changed the graphic options in the gam...

Re: Trouble running KQ8 MOE

Yeah, I guess you're right, GK3 is also giving me a headache, while it never was a problem; changing the 3D options and resolutions in that game even results in BSODs (!?). But at least it works with software renderer. With KQ8, I would expect lockups, but not that the game won't even start. It's li...

Re: Trouble running KQ8 MOE

Yeah, you know, what I was trying to say, this is just XP.

It's a mini laptop though, an Acer Aspire One, newest model. On my last model I had no trouble running it.

Trouble running KQ8 MOE

Never had any troubles in XP, but on my new laptop, the following happens... ...I installed it, which worked fine, launched....and all I get is a tiny part of the upper left corner part of the intro video, and when I press enter or wait till it's over, I just get a standard windows error that someth...
