Re: Parser or Point and Click?

Huge fan of the parser. But it's implementation needs to be fully vetted out for it to be a success (test, test, test!). Playing 'guess the word the developer was thinking of' is never fun. However, I was extremely sad to see it disappear from Sierra's and others games. I always found that point & c...

Re: Cool Mashup

Those are awesome.

There are a few more on tiefighters.com. The one with the rancor makes me smile.

Looking forward to offering to beta-test this game. From what I've seen Doan's visuals do not disappoint, that video is a testament to that.

Re: What are you playing now?

But back to Sierra and their parser... was it really lazy programming or was it a limit on the parser? My take is that they weren't lazy, just that the text-input was understated. The parser is fully capable of handling quite complex inputs (here are some really complex ones that I was able to get ...

Re: Your top 10 games of all time - not just Sierra.

Here are mine with release dates: Zork (1977-80) - Not the first text adventure, but certainly one could argue the most influential Rogue (1980) - One of the original dungeon crawlers, based on Hack. Super Mario Brothers (1985) - My introduction to the Nintendo Entertainment System. Every time I enc...

Re: That rare KQIV version

Yeah, my impression is that they built a new engine and went nuts with the detail on the initial version. I've always been impressed with Sierra's use of negative space - that's the major difference I see between the image sets. The 2nd version seems to incorporate more dark colors, leaving more for...

Re: Kings Quest 2 - SCI Remake - You can contribute!

I've created an combined 'map' of the beginning of KQ2 (7 x 7 room grid) so you all can see what has been done and what still remains to be completed. You can find it here: http://sciprogramming.com/community/index.php/topic,743.msg3964.html#msg3964 I'll have all the remaining room maps done up simi...

Re: Kings Quest 2 - SCI Remake - You can contribute!

I didn't state this in the original post (or even over on sciprogramming), but your entry will need to be an exported SCI PIC resource, so Collector is correct you will need to use one of the IDEs mentioned above. Additonally, for those interested and have not used either SCI Studio or SCI Companion...
