Re: Real MT32, not being 'programmed' - using default sounds

Yeah, personally I don't have problems doing it that way in any case.

The copyright holders would have to be quite anal if they took issues with people, who after proving they owned an original copy, could get working backups for any failed floppies.

Re: Real MT32, not being 'programmed' - using default sounds

Cool, thanks for the link!

That might actually turn out to be very helpful indeed, didn't know there was somewhere you could do that.

Re: MT-32 Buffer Overflow and Checksum Errors

Good idea making this thread, quite useful information in that post and it was a bit drowned away in my thread. One thought I had - even though it does say in the text quoted that you should replace your cables, maybe if you mention that replacing the cable has actually been tested out and did indee...

Re: MT-32 Buffer Overflow and Checksum Errors

just realized I didn't mention my fav MT32 tune from a Sierra game so far, after having tried out quite a few here... (still haven't tried out QfG) - maybe because this was the first game I started up, but more likely because I never could stand the adlib version of the tune - my favourite one so fa...

Re: Real MT32, not being 'programmed' - using default sounds

Yes, I've put it off for way too long. Luckily a lot of these games are still easily found so the worst case scenario is having to rebuy a few of them. But yeah, going to go through my entire collection and back it all up this time. About CDs going bad... that's of course very true but to me some of...

Re: MT-32 Buffer Overflow and Checksum Errors

Cool, I actually haven't tried any of the QfG games yet... off to find the disc here and try it out. I'll have to find my USB floppy drive before I can try the Conquest games though, so I'll wait until tomorrow doing that... I should back up all my floppies and store them on a DVD or something anywa...

Re: MT-32 Buffer Overflow and Checksum Errors

Hmmm, while that does sound reasonable, personally I don't think I'll start thinking along the lines of trying to avoid using it whenever possible, that would probably ruin a lot of the fun for me and make it all seem a bit stressful instead. But always turning it off whenever it's not in use... tha...

Re: MT-32 Buffer Overflow and Checksum Errors

It's a shame we're stuck with legal issues when it comes to such old hardware. Same thing with Amiga emulation and the kickstart roms required, they're still holding onto the copyright making emulation much more of a hassle than it (imo) should've been. EDIT - MusicallyInspired, that's nice to hear....

Re: MT-32 Buffer Overflow and Checksum Errors

Yeah. Do you know anything about the general life span of an MT32? How long can one expect them to keep working? Well, I guess it's impossible to say as who knows how much they've been used when you buy them used. Maybe it's not such a waste that I ended up with 2 (think I wrote about that earlier i...

Re: MT-32 Buffer Overflow and Checksum Errors

Emulation would be ideal, most people (understandably) can't be bothered to start buying old hardware and cables and all of this stuff... you have to have quite a strong interest in these games to bother with all of that, probably. Would be really cool if perfect MT32 sound could be easily made avai...

Re: MT-32 Buffer Overflow and Checksum Errors

Thanks, yeah I'm enjoying this a lot! :D I really love how the Police Quest 2 opening song sounds on the MT32, I always hated the adlib version of that one. Had a little 'doh' moment that made me jump a little btw - suddenly nothing happened, the MT32 didn't seem to be receiving anything and didn't ...

Re: Real MT32, not being 'programmed' - using default sounds

Thanks, seems it was indeed the cable. I got fed up trying these various cheap cables I get on eBay and found a store (quite a long drive from here but so tired of all these bad cables by now!) that carries these kinds of cables. Said on the back it only supported XP and Vista 32 bit but I took the ...

Re: Real MT32, not being 'programmed' - using default sounds

Well, I got another cable in the mail today, but now I have a different issue - While the games are loading, I now get an error message on my MT32 display - "Exc. Checksum Error" When the game is done loading, the sound is really awful and everything runs very slowly, regardless of cycles. My guess ...
