Zeliard - VGA or something else?

Postby Eloque » Sat Apr 25, 2015 3:42 pm

I've recently been playing Zeliard again. Also because I noticed it on chive.org/details/ZELIARD
But the version there seems cleaner, has a wider screen, better resolution maybe? Is on VGA perhaps?

As I installed Zeliard in DOSBox using the new installer, I seem to get only TGA graphics. When I install manually, I only get EGA, CGA or the like. Did I miss something?

Note that what is on archive.org is not legal for them to distribute. That said, this was one of the Japanese games published by Sierra. There were some non DOS versions released in Japan. Perhaps what you saw is one of these. The installer uses Tandy for the Tandy sound. As you found out the other graphics options in the US DOS release CGA and EGA, so there is nothing lost in the graphics.

Zeliard has 4 color CGA, 16 color EGA, and 64 color MCGA. It looks like the MCGA option is in use there.

It's not legal on Archive.org? Weird, I thought they figured that out.
Maybe it is some other version. I've noticed the the renewed installer uses TGA, not MCGA, is there a reason for that?

Thanx for the answers though, it helps to figure things out.

You are right. It has been a while since I have bothered with the game and was thinking of the other GameArts games. I have updated and re-uploaded a new version of the installer.
