Question about game sales sites.

Post by Rath Darkblade » Sat Feb 07, 2015 4:00 am

I know that the Steam Store is good when it comes to keeping my credit card details secure. However, I'd like to buy a game that Steam doesn't seem to have.

The game is available both through GOG and Origin (i.e. the EA Store). So my question is this: how secure and reliable are the GOG store and/or the Origin store?

Thanks! :)

I recommend GOG above origin as it is the closest you can get to a retail copy, as there are no online requirements.
GOG claims not to store your credit card info, so you have to reenter it every time.

You can also setup a PayPal account and put in only enough money to cover your immediate need. If somebody hacks it you won't be out much. It will also give you some fraud protections.

I would also recommend GOG over Origin. GOG is DRM-free, so that's a big bonus.

The downside to GOG is that you need to manually install updates. That doesn't sound like a big deal -- and it isn't if they release small updates -- but sometimes they make you redownload the entire game for a new update.

It's a pain not just because of the download itself, but because you need to periodically check to see if there are updates, as opposed to services like Steam or Origin, which do auto-updates.

GOG also has things like bonus stuff (MP3s, wallpapers, etc) frequently!
