11:26Clayton Strong: Hello and thank you for contacting Arvixe. How can I assist you? If at any point of this conversation, you don't receive a response from me for a prolonged period of time, it may be possible that you were disconnected. Please simply restart the chat session through our website.
11:27Tawmis Logue: Hello Clayton. For the SierraHelp.com forums (sierrahelp.com/forums) there is an SQL error that comes up... been going on for a few days opened a ticket yesterday or the day before they said they saw nothing, since it's off and on, and it's doing it again, so they said to contact through chat...
11:27Tawmis Logue:

11:27Clayton Strong: Yes, the site is now working. We were having a minor issue with mysql. We believe we have corrected this.

11:28Clayton Strong: I apologize for any inconveniences this might have caused you.
11:28Clayton Strong: You are welcome
11:28Clayton Strong: Is there anything else I can help you with today?
11:28Tawmis Logue: Nope that should do it.

I had been wondering what was going on.

If the problems reoccur I told them that I want SHP moved to a different server. I had been noticing a bit of slowness lately and that seemed to fix all of the problems last time.

09:54Tawmis Logue: For sierrahelp.com
09:57Girish Gopalakrishnan: could you please check now?
09:58Tawmis Logue: Okay. But this has been going on for a week.
09:58Tawmis Logue: I had a previous ticket in.
09:58Tawmis Logue: And also chatted with someone two days ago who said they found an issue with MySQL and "resolved it"
09:59Tawmis Logue: I even made a post about it here: viewtopic.php?p=21554#p21554
09:59Tawmis Logue: On the forum.
09:59Tawmis Logue: It seems to be up now, but whose to say it's not going to happen again? Is it fixed or is it a bandaid on a bigger problem?
10:01Girish Gopalakrishnan: please update in that ticket that the issue has reappeared and it was resolved by starting Mysql
10:01Girish Gopalakrishnan: we will check it further
10:01Tawmis Logue: Okay.
10:03Tawmis Logue: Hrm, well the forum is up but it's moving SLOW.
10:04Tawmis Logue: New error...
10:04Tawmis Logue: Internal Server Error

10:12Tawmis Logue: Hello?
10:12Girish Gopalakrishnan: yes
10:12Girish Gopalakrishnan: we are checking this
10:14Tawmis Logue: And it's back to the SQL error.

10:18Girish Gopalakrishnan: we're working on it
10:23Tawmis Logue: Any form of ETA?
10:23Girish Gopalakrishnan: should be resolved now. We've taken action against the account which was causing this in the server
10:23Tawmis Logue: Or ET of Repair I should say.

Collecting these here as they happen... just so we have proof to Arvixe. (Collector also has been CC'ed in my emails to them).

11:32Girish Gopalakrishnan: Thank you for contacting Arvixe. I'm Girish and I'll be right with you in a moment.
11:32Tawmis Logue: Hello Girish/Zee - this is an ongoing issue that's been going on all week and I keep getting promised it's fixed... And the error has popped up again.
11:32Tawmis Logue: General Error
SQL ERROR [ mysqli ]

Lost connection to MySQL server during query [2013]

An sql error occurred while fetching this page. Please contact an administrator if this problem persists.
11:33Tawmis Logue: On Sierrahelp.com
Zee S has left the conversation
11:37Girish Gopalakrishnan: I've resolved this for you now
11:39Tawmis Logue: Again?
11:39Tawmis Logue: It's been "resolved" like four or five times now this week.
11:40Tawmis Logue: First it was restarting mySQL, then apparently there was an offending site causing the issue, then it was rebooting the SQL again... And it keeps coming back.
11:41Tawmis Logue: Which is VERY unusual for Arvixe (because I have several sites with you guys and NEVER normally have any issues! But this has been going on for a week with promises of being fixed).
11:41Tawmis Logue: Not that I mean to sound like a jerk, but it's frustrating for myself, and the users on the forum.
11:41Tawmis Logue: As I am sure, you can imagine.
11:41Girish Gopalakrishnan: Yes Tawmis, I can understand
11:42Girish Gopalakrishnan: You may please put in a request to [email protected] to check further into the issue.
11:42Girish Gopalakrishnan: Please explain the issue in details
11:42Girish Gopalakrishnan: we'll certainly assist you to resolve the issue with the server or move you to a more stable server
11:43Tawmis Logue: Ok. Been emailing them as well.
11:44Tawmis Logue: When I emailed them they told me to get on live chat so it could be diagnosed as it was happening, since it's off and on, and of course, when they got the email to check it it happened to be back up.
11:44Tawmis Logue: But will email them again.
11:45Girish Gopalakrishnan: ok
11:47Girish Gopalakrishnan: Have a good day! And thank you for choosing Arvixe.

The thing that catches my eye is this:
Girish Gopalakrishnan wrote:We've taken action against the account which was causing this in the server

A site is only as secure as the most compromised site on the server. Makes me wonder what the other site was doing and how it may have been compromised.

Well if a site gets hacked (out dated php, etc) it opens the door. For example, eons ago, I was running an out dated phpbb on tawmis.com and the entire site got hacked and can be used to attack their internal servers. When this happened with Tawmis.com, my site hosted an attacking site (among others), but it ended up getting my site suspended for awhile (until I talked to them). So I imagine that's what they mean.

SHP's phpBB and the chat are up to date. I have held the scripting on the main site to a minimum. This does not make the site immune to being hacked, but it does help. Keeping the phpBB up to date is not that hard, but what I am not looking forward to is when phpBB 4 is released. Updating the style will be a pain. I probably won't bother with the Black Pearl.

Well you could just force everyone to one template (the SHP one)...

Did you get my email about the iframe?

This made me laugh because of the copy and paste error I did in chat...

12:56Girish Gopalakrishnan: Thank you for contacting Arvixe. I'm Girish and I'll be right with you in a moment.
12:56Tawmis Logue: Hey!
12:56Tawmis Logue: We spoke earlier.
12:56Tawmis Logue: Same thing popped up.

12:57Tawmis Logue: Wrong copy and paste

12:57Tawmis Logue: For the forums.
12:58Girish Gopalakrishnan: should be resolved now
12:59Tawmis Logue: Yes, but this would be about the sixth time it's been "resolved."
12:59Tawmis Logue: WHAT is the issue that keeps happening?
12:59Tawmis Logue: Previously you mentioned an "OFFENDING SITE" causing the issue?
13:01Girish Gopalakrishnan: the mysql is getting killed.
13:02Tawmis Logue: I guess I am asking how is it getting killed? And why does it keep happening?
13:02Tawmis Logue: I have sites on other servers not having these issues.
13:02Tawmis Logue: Yet this has been going on all week with shp
13:02Tawmis Logue: SierrahELP.COM
13:03Girish Gopalakrishnan: Yes, I understand the issue
13:04Tawmis Logue: So I guess I am trying to figure out if in 2 hours if I am going to be talking with you or someone else again about this happening all over again. Or if there's a perm. fix being applied?
13:07Girish Gopalakrishnan: I'll work on this
13:08Tawmis Logue: Ok

Well I'll see what they come up with after my call to them. I had them link the iframe issue with the SQL errors. Perhaps it will be enough to get us off the compromised server.

13:23Girish Gopalakrishnan: Tawmis, I've monitored this much time and it is now showing any errors
13:27Girish Gopalakrishnan: Are you still there? If so, do you have any further questions that I can assist you with?

09:52Clayton Strong: Hello. Welcome to Arvixe Support Chat. Give me a moment to review your initial question.
09:52Clayton Strong: What domain are you receiving this error on?
09:52Tawmis: Hey Clayton. Looks like SierraHelp.com is having a SQL issue.
09:52Tawmis: For the forums.
09:52Tawmis: sierrahelp.com/forums
09:53Clayton Strong: One moment.
09:53Tawmis: Sure
09:54Clayton Strong: I have corrected this issue. Can you verify you can load the page now without any issues?
09:56Tawmis: Yes. But this happened off and on all week.
09:57Tawmis: There should be several tickets about this.
09:57Clayton Strong: We have been working on the mysql service on this server for a while. We had though we had found a solution but apparently it didn't resolve the issue. I am going to have our team investigate why this issue has not been resolved as of yet.
09:59Tawmis: Ok.
09:59Clayton Strong: I do apologize for any inconveniences this has caused you.

I have yet to encounter SQL errors this week. I don't think that the iframe issue was connected to the SQL errors. It looks like the SQL errors are on the server not SHP's database. Even though I didn't find any malware on my machine except for tracking cookies, I went ahead and reformatted my hard drive to be sure I had no keylogger, which may explain to iframe issue. I avoided the use of PHP on the main site to limit the venerability of the site form scripting attacks. Not much on the site needs have dynamic pages, anyway. If the PHP on the forums gets nuked from such attacks we only lose anything from the last database backup.
