I have packaged an installer for the English subtitle patch created by laffer35. I was able to get it to work with the Hendroz installer. I have also made a configuration utility that I have included with the patcher. It will let you quickly and easily set the game to run full screen or in a window from the start (for the DOSBox version) as well as being able to select the use of subtitles. It can be uninstalled without the need to reinstall the game to restore it to the way it was before the patch was installed. It works flawlessly on my Vista 64 with my GK2 DOSBox installer and on my Vista 32 with the Hendroz Windows installer. This patch represents a lot of work, both on my part and especially on the part of laffer35, so, please give it a try and let us know how it works out for you.

If there are no issues with it, I will repackage my GK2 DOSBox DVD installer to include the patch as an install option.

I believe I found out how to fix the problems with the patch.

One problem was the interlaced prologue movie. This can be fixed by using the 34.scr from Endroz's patch.

The other problem is with the lack of speech in the inventory. The reason for this problem is that the subtitle patch splits 20.msg into four separate files: 20.msg, 2000.msg, 2010.msg, and 2020.msg. However, these new message files don't have a corresponding map file, so the game can't associate any speech with those inventory messages. Ideally, this would be fixed by also splitting the internal 20.map file into four parts, but I wouldn't know how to do that. I did find a workaround, though: to get around the problem, put the attached 20.scr file into the GK2 directory, and delete the files 20.msg, 2000.msg, 2010.msg, and 2020.msg files. That should make it go back to the internal message file and thus get all the associated speech again, while still showing subtitles for those messages.

I haven't tested this thoroughly yet, so I'm not sure if there are any side effects.

BTW, it would be nice if, instead of installing the subtitle files into the top-level GK2 directory, it instead created a new subdirectory (e.g. GK2\SUBPATCH) and made the resource.cfg refer to that.

The no interlace problem had already been fixed, but it seems as if you managed to figure out the other main problem with the patch. I tested it and it does seem to have fixed it. Thank you for the info. I need to redo the config utility, anyway, so I will be redoing the patch and the GK2 installer and will incorporate this with it, with credits to you for the fix.

In the version of the patch I'd downloaded, it had the no-interlacing for the game videos, but the prologue video was still interlaced. That's what the 34.scr is for. If that has also already been fixed, though, never mind.

I installed 6-disk version with your DOSBox installer, added English subtitle patch.
When i got a lot items in my inventory, i noticed that clicking on arrows UP and DOWN doesnt scroll list of items. How can i fix that?

I tried to run SIERRA.EXE directly, without DOSBox, inventory works fine but sound is messed up so i'd prefer to get over bug and play in DOSBox. My friend played game with same disks some time ago without any problems but he didnt try subtitles patch. So i think, bug appeared with it.

OS - Win XP SP3
Sorry for bad english.

Don't just click the arrows, but keep the mouse button clicked when the cursor is over the arrow. Hope you understood me...

Hi, I have some problems:

I noticed that when Gabriel tries to listen the cassettes, there are voices but no subtitles (installation with DOSBox installer + English subtitles for DOSBox). What did you change from the original laffer patch to cause this lack of subtitles?

The spanish subtitles patch has NO voices but display duplicate subtitles... Boring.

It was the same problem with the inventory, but adeyke did some changes to the 20.scr to fix it. Thanks to that could we fix as well our spanish patch (we have now voices and subtitles, no duplicated, in the inventory).

I imagine that the solution for the cassettes must be the same. The question is what did you change in 20.scr?

Please, help!

The files involved in the cassettes are the .msg : 230, 240, 260, 320, 330, 420, 430, 440, 520, 545.

The only changes made to the English subtitle patch were just what adeyke discovered. Replaced the original 20.scr file and deleted 20.msg, 2000.msg, 2010.msg, and 2020.msg. I assume that one or more of those files were the translations of inventory items in addition to what Gabe verbally says about those items.

First, install the game from your original discs with the installer that is linked above, then apply the subtitle patch.

is there an option to still use this subtiltes?
if not, and i have to use the original discs- is there an option to install all the game so i wont need to switch discs all the time?

and forgive me to be a bit rude, but can I please get detalied answer? i dont have the experience you have, and I really tried to look through before I asked..

Thank you!
