The installer linked above will allow for full hard drive play. It is very easy to use. Just insert your disc 1 in and run the installer and replacing the discs as the installer directs you.

Hello All :D .

I am having a problem with this patch:

1. When installing GK 2 using Windows installer - the game plays all right, after installation of subtittles patch - the game runs, but the subtitles are not displayed.

2. When installing GK 2 using DOSBox installer - the game installs, but refuses to run, saying about "999.pal resource" missing.

Can anybody give me a working link for Windows version of this patch? Any help will be appreciated.

It seems as if the compatibility with the Windows version was lost in one of the revisions of the patch or the installer. You should have no problem with the DOSBox installer for GK2.

Thanks for your answer Collector, but I tried this installer, it's written above:

Quote:

To be exact - at first run (nevermind if XP[32] or Win7[64]) I could see DOSBox starting, some worlds very quickly printed on the screen, and then DOSBox exiting to the system. The lines saying about "999.pal resource" missing, stays on screen only after editing DOSBox.conf, and deleting last line - "exit".

Nevertheless of choosing, full , or minimum install - the game does not want to start.

The game is not finding a resource. It might be a version compatibility issue. What version of the game do you have? Did you use the patch on top of the original install or from an install after converting it to DVD?

Try a clean install with the DOSBox installer and make sure that it runs before to try the patch again.

I think this could be caused by the CD autorun.
Try ctrl+alt+delete and close the process wowexec, then execute the game from the shortcut.

The game version is 1.1 - but I have to give more datailed info. It's a dual layer DVD polish megapack edition (2003), see attached photos (sorry, awfull quality, mobile Nokia, you know ;) ) :

ImageImage

That might be the only release of this game in my country, but I did not make a further research. Anyway, that DVD was causing problems from the very beginning in 2003, it had an installer for Windows, which ran smootly under XP, but after installation the game didn't want to start, crying for CD's (although the DVD was in the drive). I contacted the publishers - they advised me to copy folders disk1, disk2 etc. to six separate Cd's, and insert them when game asks - that made the trick. Now DVD is dead (cannot even copy files to HDD), but I have those backup Cd's, which are still working and I can play - of course changing CD's when needed.

I've installed the game (this old installer, that I copied to HDD, worked), the game started. So, I've installed subtitles patch over a working game - subtitles did not show.

Uninstalled the game, uninstalled subtitles, then I made a clean install using Windows installer downloaded from your site (full install), installed subtitles patch, the game ran, but subtitles were not visible.

Then I've uninstalled GK, uninstalled subtitles, downloaded DOSBox installer, installed the game + DOSBox, made an install DVD using the creator (it automatically unistalled the game), installed the game (uder XP, then under Win 7) from created DVD - the game won't start (written above), so I didn't install subtitles.

Now I've installed the game under Win 7 using DOSBox installer (I suspect that install DVD I made is corrupted) - and the game started :) . I'm gonna install the subtitles, and give feedback later, anyway - thanks for your help Collector.

It must be based on Hendroz's installer. I am surprised that my installer would work with the resources already concatenated on the DVD.

All right, the subtitles are visible now!

lobo.rojo - I did not follow your advice, as the game started finally. Thanks anyway :) .

Collector - no - those installers did not work with my old DVD, I had to use CD backups during installation. DVD seams to be out of order (sometimes reads data, sometimes not), I would gladfully throw it to thrash bin, but this is the only evidence of buying a legal game. (Very cheap - back in 2003 the price of this pack was between 6 and 7 dollars, some are selling this old release on Allegro for 12, or even more nowadays :D. )

Well, another problem here. I even thought about starting new thread, but... nevermind. What's up? I'm making Polish subtitles for GK 2 (whoever is curious, there's an intro : Normal, and Vulgar ;) ), and my problem is, that subtitles are not displayed in one moment - when Gabriel reads note from Frau Huber in first location of the game. I tried both English, and Spanish subtitle patches, I made a clean install of GK 2, I asked my colegue for testing English/Spanish patch on clean game install - no way, they are not shown.

Those lines are visible in TraduSCI editor (English, Spanish, finally Polish as I translated them), but I cannot make them show in game - which is important, because my patch is meant for people, who do not know English. Any advice?

Are you sure that you specified the path to your patch files in the config file?

That's my resource.cfg file:
Quote:
videoDrv = VESA.DRV
soundDrv = MIDNONE.DRV
audioDrv = DACBLAST.DRV
joyDrv = NO
directory = .\
cmd = GK2DOS
mouseDrv = NONE
memoryDrv = NONE
minMemory = 1600k
brightness = 0
language = 1
minCPU = 486
smartdrv = YES
language = 351

resAUD = .\
resSFX = .\
resMAP = .\
rescdisc = .\
patchDir = .\PATCHES
movieDir = .\movies
robot = .\robot
patchDir = .\SUBPATCH;.\PATCHES

And I did not change anything there - maybe the problem is in DOSBox.conf (also - I made no changes there)?

Quote:
[sdl]
output= overlay
fullresolution=0x0
windowresolution= 800x600
autolock=false

[DOSBox]
machine= svga_s3
captures= "C:\Users\PtRM\AppData\Local\DOSBox Captures"

[render]
aspect=true
scaler= normal3x

[cpu]
core= normal
cycles= 10000

[autoexec]
cls
mount c "Y:\Gry\GK2\Gabriel"
c:
cd \
SIERRA.EXE
exit

Very strange is, that only in one moment (well, for now; we'll see how it goes further in game) subs are missing.

The DOSBox.conf would have nothing to do with it. Where did you put your subtitle patch files?

Subtitle files are in game directory (I chose it during installation), which is:

Y:\Gry\GK2\Gabriel\

in subfolder Subpatch:

Try removing the "patchDir = .\PATCHES" line from the RESOURCE.CFG, leaving the "patchDir = .\SUBPATCH;.\PATCHES" line. You may need to reverse the order to "patchDir = .\PATCHES;.\SUBPATCH", if you only have two buttons without sound when starting the game.
