Any chance of a Birthright installer? Also is there any difference between the dos and win95 versions of the game? Will I miss out on anything if I only play the DOS version?

I have not considered one. I'd have to take a look at it to see what would be involved. If the Win version is 16-bit, any installer will not be for the Windows version as there would be no reasonable solution for x64.

I managed to get it setup with DOSBox and it runs great. Couldn't get the Win version working but from what I read there's no real difference between the two. Plus with the DOS version I can run it in true fullscreen. It wasn't hard getting it set up. You do have to mount the disk (or image of the disk), and there are patches that oddly enough I had to install through the Vista cmd prompt (they can't be run in DOSBox). It's a cool game, better than I expected. Couldn't figure out why the multiplayer option is grayed out, maybe that's only for the Win version, but I doubt I'd ever make use of it anyway.

I recently got things rolling on DOSBox... before I found your installer (which is handy but now I need to reconfigure my DOSBox to play it correctly, but such is life).

I remember way back in the day having the Developer's Tools available, which let's you unlock and make all the realms playable (It is fun to play as the Gorgon, and it makes the cutscenes seem out of place, plus I recall adventuring as the Gorgon... what a hoot, especially when you fight yourself.)

Does anyone still have the Developer's Tools available? It might not work on a modern PC though if it needs the Win95 version to work. (At least that seems to be the problem with the Character Editor)

I see they have some scenarios and saved games that look good, but to get it you need to register, which is free. ;) However, their CAPTCHA image check appears to be broken... :x

Oh well. Thanks for pointing it out! I thought they were solely a RPG non-computer game website, but they have discussion on both. :D

Found a thread that might help:

Down in the comments:

Someone trying to register on Birthright.net is also seeing the issue (I did too, and I tried all their different versions of the forum in case just one style was broken) and said: "The message I keep getting is "Image verification could not be verified due to server issues. Please try again later."

I got a reply, he isn’t sure what is going wrong, but said if I give him your email, desired username and password he will create the account manually. You can send the info to me at [email protected]
