68K/PPC compatible Sierra-Adventures on classic macs

Post by dr.zeissler » Sat Apr 27, 2019 5:24 am

Hi,
I would love to play these old sierra-classics on my mac-setups. But what the hell are those games unstable/buggy on mac!
I simply can not get these games to work stable or sometimes even start on any of my machines.
What is that timer-bug on mac, can this not be fixed? Is it kind of "runtime200-bug" on PC?

Is it this compley that they were never really fixed to work on a classic mac setup (68K) ?

I do own these machines:
- 68040/25 OS7 LC 475
- 68040/25 OS7 Q700
- 68020/16 OS6 LC 1 (Apple2e Card)
- PPC601/66 OS7 PM6100
- PPC601/200 OS8 PM7300
- IIgs

Is there any solution that I can play SQ1 Color/ Larry 1 Color, SQ3/4 etc. ?
I do nat like SCUMMVM, I would like to play them on the real thing.

Thx and Greetings
Doc

I am not familiar with old Macs, so I probably will not be of much help. Are the SQ1 and LSL1 the AGI or SCI versions? Is there any kind of setup program?

No there is no setup program.
SQ1 does not even start http://macintoshgarden.org/games/space-quest-1-original
SQ2 does start, but has glitches: http://macintoshgarden.org/games/space-quest-2 \

(see the graphical errors in this video:

(not my machine, but nearly the same)

SQ3 looks up http://macintoshgarden.org/games/space-quest-3

But if there is no real mac-programer her that can tell us, what is wrong with these mac-ports (did sierra do them?), or just tells us on what machines they do run without glitches, that would be nice.
I already bought a slow 68k mac (LC1) with a real old OS (6.08) but it's the same buggy experiance as on my LC475/Q700 with 68040 and 25 Mhz.

I do not have a lot of hope to get some answers here. sorry

Greetings

I am not a fan of ScummVM either... Much prefer DOSBox...

That said...

I think the idea is to get the Mac versions running on real hardware, not the PC versions on Mac hardware.

I'm just saying, working in IT, if you can't find the solution, you find the work around. ;)
