GK2 Script Question

Post by BBP » Tue Apr 17, 2012 2:00 pm

It's been a while since I last looked into GK2. While making the script using Laffer35's subtitle patch, I found the following (partiallyedited) lines, from talking to Leber in Chapter 3:
GABRIEL What does forensics say about the killing?
LEBER Ahogamiento. Les desgarraron la garganta.
GABRIEL ¨Asfixia?
55 0 0 4 24 Ja. Pero las hemorragias tambi‚n fueron importantes. Iban a morir de cualquier manera.
GABRIEL ¨Es as¡ como ataca la mayor¡a de los lobos, verdad? ¨Desgarrando la yugular?
55 0 0 6 24 S¡. Lobos, perros, leones. Eso dicen los especialistas.

There's a number of Spanish lines in Laffer's script, but in this particular case it's very puzzling:

The original line isn't on my Sierra Originals version. Nor is it on Rudy's playthrough.
Possibly there's a version difference here (others are the claw marks in the Rittersberg dungeon and the wedding ring quip on Marienplatz).

Does this sound familiar to any of you?

The Spanish subtitle patch was fan made too, based on, I believe, Portuguese? Seems odd, as you would expect that Sierra would have supported Spanish before other many other languages, but the Spanish subtitle is not official, either. Laffer worked from the Spanish Subtitle patch, which was not fully translated. This Spanish patch has since been completed with help from lobo.rojo.

If you keep track of which resources that were missed in Laffer's patch, I'll try to update the patch.

:) I cannot tell the difference between Portuguese and Spanish by eye. I recognize words like jugular and asphyxiation in it, but that's about it.

Thing is, this scene is from a discussion between Gabriel and Leber, means it would be taken down from a VMD-film. But I cannot find this scene on my disks, and it isn't in Rudy's playthrough either. Laffer35 didn't make it up: where does it come from then? Has anyone seen it and if so, could they please transcribe it?

Laffer did the translations based on the VMDs. It is very likely that there are some unused dialogs in the resources, so it might not ever get used. Google translate IDs it as Spanish:
GABRIEL What does forensics say about the killing?
LEBER Drowning. I tore the throat.
GABRIEL ¨ Choking?
55 0 0 4 24 Ja. But the bleeding Tambi, n were important. They were going to die anyway.
GABRIEL ¨ Is it attack as most of the wolves, right? ¨ Tearing the jugular?
55 0 0 6 24 S. Wolves, dogs, lions. So say the experts.
In what resource did you find this?

Perhaps you have an old version of the patch? He has made some corrections since he first released it. Here is what is in the current version of that resource
(LOUDLY, FAKE, O.S.)I'm just going back in my office now. In a minute, I'm going back in there.
(LEAVING OFFICE AFTER TELLING LEBER THE CLUB WAS 'THE FRIENDLY WANDERERS')Sucker.
(TRY TO LEAVE OFFICE WITH GROSSBERG'S PAPERS ON DESK)If I leave now, I'll never get another look at those papers.
(PREOCCUPIED)I don't want to discuss anythin' heavy 'til I've picked up my tape recorder.
(TRY TO PLAY VON ZELL TAPE FOR LEBER BEFORE HAVING IT TRANSLATED)I'd better figure out what that tape SAYS first.
(TRY TO PLAY VON ZELL TAPE FOR LEBER BEFORE ASKING FOR GROSSBERG'S PAPERS)I COULD share that with Leber, but I'm not sure what it would buy me at the moment.
(TRY TO PLAY VON ZELL TAPE FOR LEBER AGAIN)He was convinced the first time.
(CLICK ON GROSSBERG'S PAPERS AFTER GETTING DORN INFO)I've got everything I need.
(READING DORN'S ACCOUNT INFO)'Exports.' 'Exotics.' That sounds a bit fishy.
(THOUGHTFUL)Grossberg. Didn't Leber say that was the name of the guy who was killed last night?
(LOOK AT GROSSBERG'S NAME AND NUMBER ON MAP--AFTER WRITING IT DOWN)The latest victim's name and number.
(TRY TO WRITE DOWN GROSSBERG'S NAME AND NUMBER AGAIN)I already wrote it down.
(PICKUP, TRY TO LOOK AT MAP IN LEBER'S OFFICE, CH 5)I'm sure nothin's changed since the last time I looked at the map.,
(LOOKING AT CRIME LOCATION MAP, STUBBORN)I still say that the one in the middle is different.
(LOOK AT BULLETIN BOARD BEHIND LEBER)Probably nothin' of interest back there. Besides, I can't see past the Komissar's big head.
(LOOK AT FILING CABINET IN LEBER'S OFFICE)At least he's neater than Detective Mosely.
(PICKUP, LOOK AT GROSSBERG'S NAME BEFORE TALKING TO LEBER)Grossberg. Wonder who that is.
(PICKUP, TRY THE NOTE BOOK ON GROSSBERG'S NAME BEFORE TALKING TO LEBER)I'm not even sure why I'd want to write that down.
(TRY TO TALK TO LEBER--DIALOGUE DONE)I don't have any more questions for the Kommisar.
(PICKUP, TRY TO SHOW LEBER AN INVENTORY ITEM)I not sure why I'd want to show him that.
(PICKUP, TRY TO TALK TO LEBER WHEN YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO PLAY VON ZELL TAPE)He's bein' pretty stubborn about those ledgers. I've got a feelin' I won't be able to just talk my way past this one.
(PICKUP, TRY TO SHOW OTHER ITEMS TO LEBER WHEN YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO PLAY VON ZELL TAPE)I don't think THAT would impress Leber.
(PICKUP, TRY TO KLINGMANN'S RECEIPT TO LEBER WHEN YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO PLAY VON ZELL TAPE)That receipt's not much proof of anythin' by itself.

I used the patch version from your site. And I'm playing it again, maybe I was snoozing while watching it.
Still my problem is:
where does that scene come from if it's not in my version of the game or in the resources of my copy?

There have been a couple of updates to it, so unless you recently downloaded it, you may have an old version. Looking through the resources, I am thinking that it is an unused resource. None of the other resources match up to the MSG file.

Re: GK2 Script Question

I'm back and need some more help!
For The Geese Within: A Grebriel Knight Mystery, I was reading through my GK2 script. And found a LOT missing: to be precise, sections of the Chapter 6 inventory, and anything that takes place in the little producer's room. I didn't feel like re-installing the patched game again to dig up this one resource file, so I used SCI viewer to find the missing dialogue and lines. And stumbled into 2 problems.

1: I can't exactly make out what Leber says to Grace in the theatre at one point: "Just as the invitations specify. But why did you ask me? The (...) Polizei usually provides extra security."

2:
I found these in the Audio36 files. Grace says them. Are they in the game? I don't recall them.

-Nothing much in here. This production cost us a bundle but they say we'll make a ton of the finder's rights of the opera. Gabriel's financial luxures turned around since last year.
-Gabriel's car is parked across the street. I thought I'd be driving him home before the opera tonight but that's obviously not going to happen.
-Mary's water from Altötting's. Something. I wonder if it's supposed to be miraculous or just sodium-free.

1. Leber says: "Just as the invitations specify. But why did you ask me? The Ordnungspolizei usually provides extra security."

Not sure if this historical Police formation name is still in use in Germany, but Leber points that such events are usually "guarded" by normal, not criminal police.

2. "Nothing much in here. This production cost us a bundle but they say we'll make a ton of the finder's rights of the opera. Gabriel's financial luxures turned around since last year." - Grace says so, when she looks at her wallet in her inventory at the Wittelsbacher Opera.

"Gabriel's car is parked across the street. I thought I'd be driving him home before the opera tonight but that's obviously not going to happen." - Grace says so, when she looks at Gabriel's car keys in her inventory at the Wittelsbacher Opera.

"Mary's water from Altötting's. Something. I wonder if it's supposed to be miraculous or just sodium-free." - I did not find it anywhere in game subtitles, and I do not remember translating such sentence. Must be unused resource.

Oh, how nice (you can't use Polish fonts on this forum, so the sentence is not fully correct - but thanks) :)

I have been searching for the lines you mentioned in first post of this thread, I looked through the msg files - they are missing (there is only the Spanish/Portuguese original). I played chapter three (Leber conversation) and did not find them. I have also played the tape with Leber conversation - there are no traces of such sentences.

Thanks a lot for the effort! I guessed they'd only be on the original release... should ask Laffer35 where he found them.

I think I can tell you where he found them - he used the Spanish patch when he was making English subtitle patch. And they are in Spanish patch.
